was written to provide appropriate materials to help both teacher and student achieve the following objectives of a geometry course: - To develop an understanding of geometric relationships in a plane and in space.
- To develop an understanding of the meaning and nature of proof.
- To teach the method of deductive proof in both mathematical and nonmathematical situations.
- To develop the ability to think creatively, and critically, in both mathematical and nonmathematical situations.
- To integrate geometry and arithmetic, algebra, and numerical trigonometry.
Each chapter contains a series of learning units which, with proper application, the students can master for themselves. Definitions, postulates, theorems, and corollaries are stated concisely and precisely. They are then explained by the specific examples stated in simple language and illustrated by clearly and accurately drawn geometric figures. Model problems, whose solutions are preceded by analyses and plans of attack, teach how to apply the new geometric principles. The student can complete mastery of the unit solving a set of carefully graded and varied problems. The most challenging problems appear at the end of each set.
